The Joy of Pre-Christmas Preparations

Ever since our kids have grown and only the youngest of the four lives with us, holidays, such as Christmas, when the whole family can be together again, have gained special significance. Happy anticipation surrounds the preparations, as well, in our home: nothing comes more naturally than making the advent wreath ourselves, year upon year.
It has been almost ten years, that we have also been making preparations for charity fairs with the approach of Christmas and this year was the second when we prepared and sold wreaths at the Charity Advent Fair of Family Organisations. The charity event organised on the first Sunday of the Advent Season, was brimming with the most beautiful handicraft products. The entire proceeds of the event – more than 2 million forints – were donated to the Association assisting premature babies entitled Melletted a helyem (I belong next to you). It is with a quote from the poet Dezső Kosztolányi that I want to wish everyone happy anticipation and preparation hoping that by the time the fourth flame of the advent wreath is lit, everyone will be reunited with their loved ones.
„Kik messze voltak, most mind összejönnek
a percet édes szóval ütni el,
amíg a tél a megfagyott mezőket
karcolja éles, kék jégkörmivel.”

(Those from far away are now reunited
To pass the moment using sweet words,
While the winter scratches frozen fields
With sharp icy nails.)
