Memorable programs, memorable people

Friendship, always

Experiencing friendship, the power of togetherness among people is always a good feeling. This treasure is even more cherished when it provides a bond between nations. Our good relations with the Polish date back a thousand years, which is unique on a global scale. This year we met Polish presidential couple in the town of Veszprém to celebrate our shared feast, the Day of Hungarian-Polish friendship and to host the Polish delegation. This year Poland celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Polish nation’s regained independence. Marshall Józef Piłsudski defeated the Soviet army attacking the country in rebirth. We Hungarians also contributed to the success of the decisive battle. The Hungarian delegation delivering support ammunition arrived at the very last moment, following an adventurous journey. In his speech delivered at the ceremony, János said: “As happened so many times before and since then as well: we, Hungarians served as supports for the heroic fight of the Poles to stand their ground. It was up to us, Hungarians, as well, that the Vistula battle became the Vistula Miracle.” On the Hungarian and Polish pages of history books we read time and time again that we could always count on one another. At the shared programmes in Veszprém, I could feel precisely this: our friendship not only has a glorious past but a rich future, as well.
